How to Connect Azure VNets Across Regions Using VPN Gateway
In this Azure lab, we will configure VNet-to-VNet connectivity between the East US and West Europe regions using Azure VPN Gateways. We will create the required virtual networks, subnets, and virtual machines, connect the VPN gateways, and test communication between the two Azure VNets.
Azure VNet-to-VNet Connectivity Lab
| High-Level Tasks | Sub-tasks |
| Create an Azure VNet in each region | Create a resource group and configure a VNet in East US and West Europe. Create the required compute and gateway subnets. |
| Deploy virtual machines | Create VMs and assign each VM to the appropriate VNet subnet. |
| Create Azure VPN Gateways | Create a VPN Gateway for each VNet. Select the appropriate VPN type and associate each gateway with its VNet and GatewaySubnet. |
| Connect the VPN Gateways | Create a VNet-to-VNet connection and select the source and destination virtual network gateways. |
| Verify the connection | Open Connections in the Azure portal and verify that the gateway connections show a Connected status. |
| Test VNet-to-VNet connectivity | Test communication between the VM in East US and the VM in West Europe. |

Testing Connectivity Between Azure VMs

Azure VPN Gateway provides secure connectivity between Azure virtual networks and other networks. In this lab, we use a VNet-to-VNet VPN connection to connect VNets located in the East US and West Europe regions. The connection uses VPN gateways to establish an IPsec/IKE tunnel between the two Azure VNets.
Before creating the connection, make sure the VNet address spaces do not overlap. Once the VPN gateways are configured, you can verify the connection status in the Azure portal and test communication between resources in the connected VNets.
Conclusion
In this lab, we configured Azure VNet-to-VNet connectivity between the East US and West Europe regions using VPN Gateways. We created the required VNets, subnets, virtual machines, and VPN gateways, and then established a connection between the two virtual networks.
Finally, we verified the connection status and tested communication between the Azure VMs. This demonstrates how Azure VPN Gateway can provide secure connectivity between VNets across different Azure regions.
