VMware NSX-T 3.0 Key features
VMware NSX-T 3.0 brings whole new key features. Furthermore, this is a major release of VMware’s SDN platform that offers virtual networking, security, load balancing, and visibility all in a single code base. Also below diagram represents the key architectural components and features offered by NSX-T 3.0
With NSX-T 3.0 now you have the capability to manage the entire solution across the on-premises and cloud. Indeed below are the summary of the new key features and use cases
New features such as Level-3 EVPN provides a better virtual machine (VM) mobility, multicast routing, and accelerated data plane performance. It also allows seamlessly connects telco VNF to the overlay network. Clearly the NSX Edge implements standards-based BGP control plane to advertise IP Prefixes into the telco core, running MP-BGP sessions with the telco Provider Edge/DC Gateways, etc.
In short, NSX-T brings huge architectural flexibility in terms of deployment and also added lots of features on visibility and security – however please consider the following part of your planning exercise.
First, vCenter is required for running NSX-T on ESXi which was not mandatory in the previous versions. And going forward N-VDS support on ESXi will be removed.
Second, NSX-T surpasses NSX-V in terms of feature parity. And NSX Data Center for vSphere (NSX-V) is in the sunset period of life with the end of general Support is from January 16th, 2022, and end of technical Guidance – January 16th, 2023. Customers must not deploy new NSX-V deployments, all new deployments must be with NSX-T
